I'm using the top surface as a shelf and have had no problems. The unit doesn't seem exceedingly sturdy overall though, but I didn't buy it to hold anything heavy so no big deal, just FYI. I got this for my son to store his toys in, and it's working perfectly for us. As it's out in our living room, I was hoping it would be a nice, sturdy piece of furniture...but c'mon, for this price you really can't expect much more than what you get. It was a little difficult to put together...definitely need two pairs of hands or a lot of patience...! But once it's together and a few extra brad nails are nailed in to the back for reinforcement, it serves it's purpose well! Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this product to others who are looking for a nice but inexpensive storage solution!
